About the Bean
Sumatran Mandheling is one of Indonesia’s most renowned specialty coffees, celebrated for its bold body, earthy depth, and syrupy sweetness. Grown in the rich volcanic soils of North Sumatra’s highlands, Mandheling embodies the unique flavor profiles that have made Indonesian coffees world-famous.
Processing Method – Wet-Hulled (Giling Basah)
This traditional Indonesian method sets Mandheling apart. After cherries are pulped, the parchment is partially dried before being hulled at a higher moisture content than other processing styles. This technique, unique to Sumatra, enhances the coffee’s heavy body and deep, complex flavors while imparting a signature herbal, earthy character.
